Gross Anatomy is one of those subjects that every medical student has to take along with the hands on learning approach to dissecting cadavers in order to get that elusive degree in medicine at the end of a long and torturous road. At first I was a little apprehensive about seeing a dead body plopped right in front of me, but it’s really no big deal. You sort of just get use to it and I’m at the point where I can go from the dissecting table to the dinner table without washing my hands losing my appetite… Anyway, you can read more about my human dissection stories in the archives.

Anatomy is a huge subject this semester and it WILL be visited over and over again in subsequent years in medical school and beyond. I swear I must have like 4 anatomy books that I have to reference from. One of the anatomy books I have is called oddly enough “Human Anatomy” by Saladin. It wasn’t one of the recommended books we were supposed to get, but my friend who’s in his second last year of medicine recommended it to me. Oh, by the way, the professors don’t force you to get any book; you have to decipher which one is best for you. I wouldn’t worry too much about getting the wrong book because in the end we’re all screwed anyway. After going through the book I realised that they really need to update the pictures from 1980 to 2007… seriously. Just look at Exhibit A:

If you couldn’t tell, this book was published in 2005. Yes, it’s true that she’s African-American making this book more culturally sensitive…always a good thing. What I don’t get is why the hell did they let her wear a dead animal on her head? She’s probably 20 years old, but the beaver head made her look at least 40. Damn, I wish I had her hair.

So this view makes her look worse. I guess airbrushing wasn’t an option in 2005? Well, you can sort of see the remnants of her Adam’s apple, which by the way is the best feature on a woman, in this picture. Also, the semi-double chin is hot.

I wonder if she knew that her picture was going to be printed on thousands of anatomy books. Maybe she thought she was doing a print ad for “Wigs Made from Road Kill.” I mean would you want to have your bad driver’s license photo duplicated and etched in a book forever? Or in her case, a mug shot?

Edit: Shit I hope that wasn’t too offensive. If she had a different wig on I’d probably maybe quite possible do her?

Edit again: I love black people.  Crap!  Is that even politically correct anymore?
